Etiquette of Casino Craps
/ 12 January 2006
Craps is a popular game, played in casinos all around the world. It's a fun and exciting game and the rules are easy to remember. If you ever watched a game of casino craps, you might have noticed that the players of craps keep certain rules of etiquette when playing the game. Some of these rules are made to make the game flow better, but some other rules are just based on superstition.
Craps is a game of traditions and codes of behavior. One of the first rules of etiquette in a casino craps game is not to swing your hands over the table. It's the task of the dealer to make sure that all the wins are paid out correctly, and all bets are placed before he gives the dice to the player. Unfortunately, it seems that there is always someone who decides to make a last minute bet and his or her hands are somewhere over the table. If the player throws the dice and touches, the hand of the one that just made a last minute bet, and an unwanted number appears on the dice and the better will be blamed. This will slow down the game and worsen the game atmosphere.
Another rule (which is definitely more superstition than logic) is to never say the word 'seven' at the casino craps table. You don't want to jinx the table in any way.
A tip for good luck; if you are a player and the dice falls of the table, shout 'same dice'. Allegedly, this will keep your good luck going. If you're not doing so well and the dice falls of the table, you can ask for new dice, because it is a well-known fact; bad luck is in the dice and not in the player.
Never talk or in any other way distract the player who is about to throw the dice, especially when he's on a good luck streak, since this will only push his luck further. If the player who's going to throw the dice is distracted by his wife or girl friend, ask the dealer to take of your bets, because there will be a good chance that this player is about to seven out.
Even though most of these rules sound like superstitious nonsense, it doesn't hurt to keep to these rules, in respect for the other casino craps players.
